Mochi - rice cake prepared by pound steamed rice
Even if mochi should have the origin of China it seems to me to see more mochi in Japan than in China.
It is usually either grilled or boiled in the soup. In the past mochi was eaten only during the news years period.
As it is stickey many foreigners do not like mochi, but rice cracker "okaki" which was also made by mochi is popular and we find it in many European supermarket.
